2023 Global Investment Promotion Conference for the Greater Bay Area kicks off

Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao are hosting the Global Investment Promotion Conference for the Greater Bay Area for the second time. It has attracted over 120 overseas companies from more than 20 countries and regions.

The passion of participants is, without a doubt, a solid proof of how the Greater Bay Area is welcomed as a paradise for foreign businesses. There are 859 cooperation projects signed at the event this year, with a total investment of 2.24 trillion RMB.

Charisma of the Greater Bay Area

Why the Greater Bay Area has such charisma for global enterprises? With a population of 86 million, it is one of China's most open and economically dynamic regions. It has the advantages of economic scale, population size, market capacity, industrial supporting facilities, convenient transportation and business environment.

The governments are also doing a decent job to attract foreign enterprises. Guangdong, for example, has launched a "package" of support policies in incentives, taxation, technology innovation, land use and energy use. The list can go on and on.

To better understand it, here’s an example. Since 2018, Guangdong has introduced foreign investment incentive policies, with cash reward funds nearly 4.7 billion yuan, supporting more than 300 projects, and the actually used foreign capital is over 200 billion yuan.

Let’s not forget the Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macao. Hong Kong has long been known as the gateway to Chinese mainland as it offers easy access, commercially and geographically. Thousands of companies are holding their regional headquarters in the city, because of its robust and efficient financial market, a free trade and investment policy, world-class infrastructure and a highly-skilled talent pool.

And also, Macau, as a bridge between the East and West, can more accurately connect the Chinese mainland with Portuguese-speaking and EU countries, promoting bilateral and multilateral trade and investment.

Vanguard of China's reform and opening-up

Looking back into history, Guangdong is the vanguard of China's reform and opening-up. In the past decades, Guangdong has set a model of Chinese modernization for the rest of the country. And now, the province is also taking the lead in comprehensively deepening reform and promoting high-standard opening up. Making the Greater Bay Area a success, is now one of its biggest priorities.

With all these factors combined, the Greater Bay Area as a whole has an unparalleled advantage, allowing various industries from different countries to flourish here. The success of this conference explains it all.
